Prospects Go 3-2, Lose in Semi-Finals in Kelowna Fall Invitational
29/09/2015 11:50The Prospects Academy had a strong weekend overall in the first annual Kelowna Fall Invitational tournament, going 3-1 in round robin play before losing in semi-final action.
Game 1:
The Academy lost 6-5 to Okanagan College. Erik Sabrowski had a monster day at the plate going 3-4 with a 2B and 3 RBI (including the game-tying double in the top of the 7th). Logan Cameron started on the mound going 3 innings giving up 5 runs. Graham Brunner was very strong in relief tossing 3.1 innings giving up just a single run.
Game 2:
The Prospects came out on top, 9-8, in a see-saw affair against rival Okotoks. Erik Sabrowski led the way offensively going 2-4 with a HR and 3 RBI. Jeremie Arseneau was 1-3 with a HR and 2 RBI. Jaret Semeniuk was 2-3 with 2 RBI. Zach Yuzda was 2-3 with 2 RBI. Erik Sabrowski started on the mound going 5.1 innings giving up 8 runs. Zaine Foth-Thomas earned the win out of the pen throwing 1.2 scoreless with 2 strikeouts.
Game 3:
The Prospects defeated the Parksville Royals 5-2 behind Finnigan Duffield's strong pitching performance. He went 6.2 innings giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits while striking out 4. Ty Wagar closed things out, recording the final out. Zach Olson was 2-3 with 2 RBI. Matt Bondarchuk was 2-3.
Game 4:
In the final game of round-robin action the Prospects defeated Abbotsford 3-2. Dylan Gates was dominant on the mound, earning the complete game victory with 5 strikeouts. Zach Olson, Erik Sabrowski, and Zach Yuzda each had RBI.
Semi-Final:
The Prospects lost a back and forth affair 11-6 in the semi-finals to Abbotsford. Ross Supruniuk started on the mound going 3 innings giving up 5 runs. Zaine Foth-Thomas went 2.1 innings giving up 6. Tylor Jans threw 0.2 innings. Jeremie Arseneau led the way offensively going 2-3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI. Tauren Langley added an RBI. Zach Yuzda was 3-4 with an RBI.
The Prospects are back in action on Wednesday at home against Nanaimo before leaving to Colorado and Kansas on Friday.
