Mike enjoyed a 17 year professional baseball career that began with being drafted out of Sherwood Park by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1993. He made his Major League debut in 1997, and played parts of five years in the MLB with the Baltimore Orioles and Montreal Expos. He was also part of the Texas Rangers, LA Dodgers, and San Francisco Giants from 2001-2003.

Mike's career also involved a substantial amount of time over in Asia, playing in professional leagues in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. 2003 was the first time he played with the Canadian Sr. National Team. He has played in many World Qualifiers and Championships. He was also part of both Sr. National Teams that competed in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics in Athens and Beijing. He also pitched for Canada in the World Baseball Classic in Toronto. In 2012, Mike was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame with his teammates, as they won the 2011 Pan American Games Gold Medal in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Since his playing days have ended, Mike has stayed involved in the game by coaching at many various levels. Those levels include Bantam AAA, Midget AAA and numerous national events including Canada Cup and Canada Summer Games. He has been involved with the Junior National Team since 2011, and is currently the pitching coach. Mike is looking to bring a positive attitude, and a knowledge base that will impact the Prospects Academy players, and aide them in their personal and athletic goals.

Kevin is from Edmonton, Alberta and played for the Prospectsd Academy in its inaugural season of 2010, and also again in 2011.  He went to play at Garden City Community College of the KJCCC.  After 2 years at Garden, Kevin transferred to Fort Hays State University (NCAA DII).  In his senior season he hit .415 with 12 homeruns and was named as an All-American, as well as the All Canadian Team 2 by the Canadian Baseball Network.  Kevin and Coach Cam Houston hold the same career batting average at Fort Hays which stands at .389.  

In 2015, Kevin graduated from Fort Hays in the field of Exercise Science, and served as an intern with the Fort Hays Strength and Conditioning staff.  In 2016, he worked with the Normal Cornbelters of the Frontier League of Independent Professional Baseball.  In the fall of 2016, Kevin joined the Prospects Staff on the field as a coach, working with infielders and hitters.

Kevin will be taking over the Head Strength and Conditioning role at the Prospects Acedmy in 2016.  He is energetic and highly motivated to see that the athletes of the Prospects make the necessary gains in their off-season and in-season Strength and Conditioning Programs; by developing individual workout plans which cater to each of their atheltic needs.  

PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Originally from Osaka, Japan, Shinya played collegiately at the University of Tsukuba.  He received his Master's degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta in 2010, and also a Master's degree in Health and Sports Science from the University of Tsukuba from 2004.  He has taken several courses, including Active Release Technique, Sports First Responder, Concussion Management, Functional Movement Screen (FMS), Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), Spinal/Peripheral Manipulation, Mulligan Technique, Myofascial Release, and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization.

During his career, he has had the opportunity to work with Olympic Athletes in preparation for the 2000 Sydney Summer Games (Japanese Synchronized Swimming Team),  the Edmonton Cracker Cats and the Edmonton Capitals Baseball Clubs for several years.  He has also worked with the Seattle Mariners as an Assistant Trainer for their 2010 and 2012 Spring Training Camp.  As well as the Edmonton Oilers (NHL) and the Edmonton Eskimos (CFL).

There are not many phsyiotherapists who have the experience of playing baseball and the Prospects are fortunate to have Shinya as a valuable peice of our staff.  He will be able to utilize his experience of baseball and science to assess and treat the players in our program which will in turn, give them the best opportunity to stay healthy and perform on the field.

Corey is a native of Fredricton, New Brunswick.  He was a part of the 2010-2011 Sr. Prospects Academy.  He then moved on to the Prairie Baseball Academy (PBA) where he won back to back Conference Championships, while earning 1st Team All Conference Awards his freshman and sophmore years.  Corey continued his college career at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (NCAA DII) where finished with a .347 average, 35 homeruns and 138 RBI's in 3 seasons.  He was a standout in his senior year as he broke single records for homeruns (26), RBI's (90), runs scored (67), total bases (183) and slugging (.847).  Wood earned 1st Team All American, Great American Conference Player of the Year and won the DII Josh Willingham MVP for 2016.

Corey will be looking for future Prospect players from the east coast who are looking to attend the academy, and have aspirations of continuing on to post secondary school for baseball.
